When might a person in Tennessee be awarded alimony in futuro?

Divorce can bring with it a lot of financial concerns. This may be especially true for individuals in Tennessee who earn significantly less than their spouse, or who stayed out of the workforce entirely while married to care for the family. For these individuals, obtaining spousal support after their divorce may be essential to their financial well-being.

Does paternity need to be established to seek child support?

Two people in love may have a child together who they love, but that does not mean their relationship is meant to last. When a married couple in Tennessee divorces or when unmarried parents end their relationship, the custodial parent may want to seek child support from the noncustodial parent.

Tennessee courts may award rehabilitative alimony in divorce

Some married families have arranged their lives so that one spouse is the main income-earner, while the other keeps the home and raises the children. However, even if this arrangement is beneficial, it is no guarantee against divorce. And, should the couple determine that divorce is in their best interests, the spouse who stayed out of the workforce may find that they are at an economic disadvantage. The state recognizes this and has laws in place that provide for spousal maintenance.

What is the purpose of alimony?

When a marriage fails, both spouses will inevitably enter back into society since. In many cases, during the course of the marriage one spouse acted as the caretaker in the home, making sure that all the tasks and chores were done while the other spouse worked to support the couple.

Stay organized after spousal support is awarded

When a couple decides it is time for a divorce, one of the concerns that the spouses may have is spousal support. During the marriage, one of the spouses may have given up his or her career for the good of the marriage or for the good of the family. They may have restricted themselves professionally and financially. And there are also legitimate concerns for the spouses going forward after a divorce. Can they financially fend for themselves as two individuals, as opposed to a couple?

After divorce: don't do this, don't do that

At the end of a hard workweek, sometimes people are exhausted and don't know how to spend their free time. They have been so consumed with finishing their work tasks they have forgotten to plan for a weekend. The same sort of thing can happen with divorce.
