Reality star headed to family court

Tennessee residents who watched the reality series "The Bachelor" likely know that the show's Amanda Stanton, who also appeared in "The Bachelor in Paradise," was engaged to be married to star Josh Murray. Stanton's ex-husband, with whom she shares two children, has now filed motions to modify the amount of child support he pays as well as the child custody order.

Stanton's ex claims that Stanton's new lifestyle on and off the show is harmful to their children. He has argued that her publicized personal life has led to the children's receiving too much media attention, which he believes is bad for them. He also argues that the support he pays to her in the amount of $2,000 per month is too high.

According to him, the original child support amount was set at a time when Stanton made $100 per month. He states that her income now ranges between $20,000 and $30,000 per month. Her ex also claims that the children are with him most of the time rather than being with their mother the amount of time prescribed in the original order, and he is seeking more custody rights.

After a divorce, the circumstances of the individual spouses may change substantially from the time when the court's custody and support orders were issued. When such changes happen, either parent may file a motion with the court requesting that the orders be modified. If the court finds that the changes are in the child's best interests, it may then grant the modification motion. A family law attorney can be of assistance in this regard.
